Blue Peter
The Blue Peter Award is offered to young people completing their Duke of
Edinburgh Silver or Gold Award,� with a maritime focus for the skills,
service, sport and expedition components of the award:
Skills - Marine Expedition Training will include:
. food planning and logistics
. group facilitation and situational leadership
. remote area first aid and emergency preparedness
. paddling, rowing and sailing skills
. rope work and knot tying
. fishing and snorkelling
. camping, fire skills and cooking
. weather and tide interpretation
. marine navigation including night sailing
. communications, logbooks and reporting
. includes presentation of information sessions to peers
. reports on skill development in chosen areas
Service - To the marine environment
. clean up australia
. waverider foundation
. sea shepherd
Sports - Fitness and Mastery in expedition vessels may include competition
or distance events in:
.sailing dinghy or outrigger
.paddling sea kayak or outrigger
.rowing dinghy or longboat
.sail training ship
Expeditions - research and qualifying
. several 3-6 day research expeditions are generally required
. preparation and planning for the qualifying expedition
. lead and facilitate a training expedition for other candidates
. demonstrate competence in all training elements
. submit an expedition report
